The Woodroad Park - In the Beginning

Woodroad Park was created in 1935 when 25 acres of land was acquired for £500. The main feature of the park was the swimming pool which was opened in June 1936 (the pool closed in 2003 and is now demolished).

Other facilities included tennis courts, a putting green, and playing fields. In 1937, ground at Stepends Bing was donated to Cumnock Burgh by Lady Talbot de Malahide of Auchinleck. After 1945 an open-air dance floor was created.

In 1951 a children`s play park was donated by the Round Table. In 1953 a bridge was erected connecting the park to the Glebe. Later a camping site was established and the park became a popular tourist destination. The Park saw its share of day trips and events like cyclists` rallies but now most of the facilities are no longer available.
